Palmistry
For centuries humankind has attributed mystical qualities to the lines on the palm of the hand. Palmistry records can be traced back as far as 1500 B.C. in Vedic Scriptures. In China, palmistry has been popular as far back as 3000 B.C. Among ancient Romans, palmistry was a part of the official religion of state and was regularly used in parliamentary procedure. Aristotle was the first to maintain that the grooves, creases, and lines in the palm are a result of nervous and muscular interplay directed by the brain. Modern anatomy views the hand as an endpoint of nerve impulses coming from the brain. Your hand, with its mounts, lines and configurations represents the picture of your life. All palms have six basic lines in common. Heart Line - deals with emotions, a person's loving nature, insecurities, marriages, dependence and independence. (This line is located under the pinky finger and heads toward the thumb-side of the palm.) The Head Line - indicates career, intellect, reasoning powers, career attitudes, potentials for success. (This line begins between the first finger and the thumb and aims for the opposite side of the palm.) The Life Line - relates to the pattern and quality of life, to physical vitality, to stability or imbalance, will power and logic. (The life line begins near or is conjoined with the head line and sweeps around the base of the thumb....at times the head and heart lines are combined.) The Mercury Line - relates to matters of health (in particular the nervous system) and to business and adventure and the spirit of discovery. (This line goes diagonally across the palm between the pinky finger and the base of the thumb.) Apollo Line - relates to utilization of creative energies and potentials for success through development of talents. (This line is vertical and is located below the base of the third finger.) Saturn Line - revealer of strengths of character, career, friendships, life's daily problems and general ability to succeed. (The Saturn line is also vertical and is located below the base of the second finger.) Source: Instant Palm Reader A Road Map to Life, by Linda Domin.

I like the way you started out -- a good, brief overview -- but I think people will be confused as you describe the lines from Top to Bottom - -so let me help:
Usually the heart line is the top horizontal line -- beginning under the pinky and heading toward the thumb-side of the palm.
Next the head line begins between the first finger and the thumb and aims for the opposite side of the palm.
The life line begins near or conjoined with the head line and sweeps around the base of the thumb.
There are rare times when a person's head and heart lines are combined.
The other lines you mention run vertically and under the specific finger you reference. Some begin below the finger and aim down, others begin lower in the hand and aim up.
